Importing Recipes from Other Recipe Apps into Flavorish

You can move your saved recipes from other apps into Flavorish in just a few minutes. This guide walks you through importing from:

  • CookBook
  • Mr. Cook
  • Paprika Recipe Manager 3
  • Recipe Keeper

Flavorish imports in bulk using an export file from your old app.

Before you start: what gets imported?

  • CookBook → recipes + tags
  • Mr. Cook → recipes only
    • Mr. Cook does not export categories or tags; you’ll need to recreate them in Flavorish.
  • Paprika → recipes + categories
  • Recipe Keeper → recipes + collections

Images, ingredients, instructions, and basic metadata (title, notes, etc.) are imported where provided in the export file.

Importing from CookBook

Importing from CookBook

CookBook exports recipes as a YAML file, which Flavorish can read.

  1. Export from CookBook
    • Open the CookBook app.
    • Go to Settings.
    • Under Backup, tap Backup / export.
    • When asked for a format, choose YAML files.
    • Tap Backup and save the file somewhere you can access later (e.g., Files, iCloud Drive, Google Drive).
  2. Import into Flavorish
    • Open Flavorish.
    • Go to the Account tab.
    • Under Import & export, tap Import recipes.
    • Select CookBook.
    • Tap Add file and choose the YAML file you exported from CookBook.
    • Tap Import recipes and keep the app open until you see “Import complete” with the success count.

Your CookBook recipes (and their tags) will now appear in your Flavorish recipe library.

    • Move recipes into new or existing collections

Troubleshooting & FAQs

The file won’t upload or isn’t recognized.

  • Make sure you chose the correct export format:
    • CookBook → YAML files
    • Mr. Cook → Export recipes (.zip)
    • Paprika → Paprika Recipe Format
    • Recipe Keeper → Recipe Keeper .zip file
  • Don’t unzip or edit the file. If you did, export it again and upload the original file.

The import is stuck / taking a long time.

  • Keep Flavorish open and avoid switching apps while import is running.
  • Large libraries (hundreds of recipes) may take a few minutes.
  • If it fails, close and reopen Flavorish, then try again.

Some recipes or tags are missing.

  • Check what your original app actually exports:
    • Mr. Cook does not export categories or tags, so these can’t be imported.
  • In apps like Paprika, make sure you selected All recipes (or the correct categories) before exporting.
  • Re‑export and re‑import if you think something was left out.
